With a creative background in Textiles, in 2012, I had the opportunity to take another path, exploring painting and printmaking. My influences are many, for life has presented many inspiring ideas, from my surroundings and from the many cultures encountered on my travels. My inspiration comes from all these things, that fire my imagination and creativity.
The past use of colour, pattern and design in textiles, remains an underlying element in the individual artwork I now create. Working with paint totally absorbs me and has brought a new dimension to my creative output. This new emotional element is expressed through the painting process; from selecting and mixing colour, through building up the layers of paint and texture. The effect of light, through the changing weather/seasons and time of day are a challenge to capture, but are what makes each new landscape an original.
I live in a coastal village in South West Scotland and exhibit my work in the local area throughout the year. It is such a beautiful area, with beaches, hills and forests and the extra ordinary quality of light associated with the sea.
